Elementary school mentors have the opportunity to work weekly with students in a group or one-on-one setting. Mentors provide consistent companionship and guidance to their mentees in a variety of ways.

One-on-One Mentoring: Mentors provide companionship to their mentees during the school day. From reading together to playing games at recess, mentors develop a unique relationship with their mentees. Mentors in this division are placed in a classroom to serve as a Teacher Assistant or buddy for a specific student.​​

Group Mentoring: Mentors provide support to multiple students in after-school care through the ACPS Extended Day Enrichment Program. Mentors assist and engage their mentees in a variety of ways. This may include homework help, conversation, crafting, outdoor activities, and more.

Mentors facilitate after-school events with various science activities at elementary schools across Alachua County. Mentors rotate to a different school every other week to lead the students in a variety of fun experiments while teaching the science behind each one. This allows mentors to empower students through science!

Mentors work one-on-one with their mentees on a weekly basis, offering unconditional support during the challenging transition stage of middle school. They ensure that students have a constant presence to navigate this time with. Mentors can be tailored toward certain academic subjects, such as math, reading, or science, to focus on students' specific needs. Mentors in this division can also function as Teacher Assistants to provide support to students in the classroom.

Mentors volunteer weekly in a study-hall setting to advise and assist their mentees with a variety of different tasks, including homework, college and job applications, career planning, and standardized test preparation. Mentors in this division also provide in-classroom support to mentees, functioning as tutors and Teacher Assistants. Mentors serve as a friend to help their mentees through the challenges of high school. This is a great opportunity for mentors to connect with an older age group!

 The Alachua County Higher Education Initiative (ACHEI) is MentorGNV's newest program, created to help high school students explore and pursue whatever comes after graduation. Whether that means a four-year college, community college, trade school, a certification program, an apprenticeship, the military, or the workforce, we believe every student deserves the chance to dream bigger and take that next step with support. Led by trained UF mentors who have recently walked the same path, ACHEI meets students where they are and turns the overwhelming question of "what comes next" into a series of honest, encouraging conversations. Through a semester-long curriculum centered on careers, applications, and planning for the future, we don't push any single path — we help students see every option in front of them and move forward with confidence.
